What is smart keyless remote entry?
Keyless remote entry systems on a vehicle, sometimes referred to as passive entry systems, allow for more than a few life-changing advantages. The most significant perk of a keyless system is the convenience it supplies. Got your hands full? You can still get the trunk open with a wave of your foot, depending on the level of keyless entry installed on your car. Not to mention, no more struggling to insert the key into the door lock, just press the button and go. Another big benefit of keyless entry is the increased security it provides. The electronics in the key must be recognized by your car before it will start the engine or allow access to the interior. Not all Keyless Entry Systems are passive, but all Passive Entry systems are keyless entry systems. Confused yet? Here is how it works. Keyless Entry involves the car owner pushing buttons to lock and unlock the vehicle doors and other features like opening the hatch. Passive Keyless entry is where your car keys can stay in your pocket (or purse) and you touch an area to lock and unlock the doors, or shake your foot underneath the vehicle to open the hatch area. One bonus of passive systems is that they usually include Keyless Ignition, which allows drivers to start and drive their car without the keys ever leaving their pocket.
Even though they do similar things, Keyless Ignition and Remote Start are not the same things. Keyless Ignition lets drivers start their car without using a regular key. Just push a button, and go! Remote Ignition lets drivers start their car through their key fob. Remote Start is helpful during extreme temperatures such as very hot or very cold days by letting you start the car and help heat it up in winter. You’ll no longer climb into a cold car again, just use the Remote Ignition and heat it up before you drive away.
A Smart Key is the electronic part of your key fob that is used to remotely access a car. The buttons for your wireless functions are usually found on the Smart Key itself, if not on the attached fob. The Smart Key transmits radio signals to your car to lock the doors, open the hatch, and so on. Some vehicles will not start without the Smart Key, as they are part of the security system.
